J. EDWARD DEL RIO, CPA

Eddie Del Rio is a Senior Partner with the accounting firm of Garcia & Ortiz, P.A. He graduated from the University of South Florida in 1979 with a BA in Business Administration and Major in Accounting. Eddie joined the firm in 1989 and worked his way through the firm increasing levels of responsibility evolving to Director, VP and Shareholder. Eddie works extensively with owner managed businesses helping them navigate through a rapidly evolving and complex business environment.

Eddie works with independent business owners helping them capitalize on their competitive advantage and ability to operate efficiently, react quickly and innovate. He takes an active role in planning and coordinating the efforts of external professionals and consultants with that of internal management. Eddie spends much of his time assisting clients build their business to function as a cohesive unit that grows profitably, operates efficiently, attracts and retains excellent staff, provides outstanding customer service and stays informed.

Eddie assists clients with organizational planning to identify employees’ role, what is expected of them and how they are performing. Eddie helps clients build compensation plans that align individual goals with company goals. He works extensively with clients in the financial reporting area and helps managers develop reports of key performance indicators such as Dash Board reports.

Eddie currently serves as treasurer and chairs on the finance committee for More Health, Inc., a non-profit organization providing health and safety classes to public schools in Hillsborough and Pinellas county. He has also served on several non-profit boards including Make-A-Wish Foundation, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Deaf Service Center, and West Coast Chapter of Florida Institute of CPA’s.

LUIS GARCIA, CPA, MBA

Luis Garcia, Senior Partner and Founder of Garcia & Ortiz, P.A., has been a resident of Tampa since 1961 when he emigrated from Cuba at age 26. He worked in private industry in Tampa for ten years and in 1971, together with Louis Ortiz, founded Garcia & Ortiz, P.A. which developed into the present organization.

Mr. Garcia graduated from the University of Havana in Cuba and practiced public accounting there for five years. He later attended and graduated from the University of Tampa receiving a Bachelor's Degree in Business (1964). In 1972, Mr. Garcia received his Master's Degree in Business Administration from the University of South Florida as one of the program’s first graduates. He became certified in 1971.

Mr. Garcia is a member of the Florida and American Institutes of Certified Public Accountants; he is an associate member of the Florida Bar - Health Care Division. In 1987, he was named by “Money Magazine” as one of the top 100 practitioners in the country. In 1999, named by “Florida Medical Business” newspaper as one of the 30 most extraordinary professionals in the Florida health care industry.

Mr. Garcia has extensive experience consulting to privately held and public companies. As a consultant, intensive involvement with clients in developing and implementing all financial aspects of running a business. Clientele includes manufacturing, wholesale and retail businesses. Mr. Garcia represents many professionals in the Tampa Bay area including architects, engineers, attorneys and physicians.

Luis Garcia is involved with multiple civic organizations primarily focusing on children and education. He was one of the founders of the Hillsborough Education Foundation in 1987 and continues to serve on its Board of Directors. He is on the Boards or Advisory Boards of the Salesian Sisters Partners Circle, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tampa Bay, Cigar Family Charitable Foundation, Youth Center Development, the West Tampa Chamber of Commerce, and The Bank of Tampa. Mr. Garcia is also a member of Member of several Civic, Sports, and Professional Advisory Boards.  Mr. Garcia has been awarded "The George Guida Memorial Outstanding Citizen of West Tampa Award 2015" by West Tampa Chamber of Commerce.

Clayton Kreis has been the Managing Director of Garcia & Ortiz, P.A. since 2004 and started with the firm in 1988. Mr. Kreis has extensive experience consulting with privately held companies and related owners in operating their business. Specific involvement includes tax planning, compliance, financial reporting, structuring buy/sell agreements, accounting software implementation, fringe benefit programs, administration, financial budgeting, compensation planning, sales and purchases of businesses, and restructuring professional associations.

Mr. Kreis is involved with investment advisory consulting related to wealth preservation, developing investment policy statements, asset allocation, selection of money managers and investment vehicles, review of investment performance, and financial planning. His industry experience includes health care, hospitality, engineering, architectural, legal firms, real estate, and manufacturing.

He is also responsible for the review of corporate, partnership, fiduciary and individual tax compliance filings.

C. BURT LINTHICUM, CPA

Burt Linthicum is a native of Tampa, Florida and graduated from the University of South Florida with a B.A. in 1979.  He began his career as an auditor with Price Waterhouse in 1980, working in their Jacksonville and Honolulu offices through 1989.  He then served as Director of Internal Audit for the Morton Plant Mease Health System in Clearwater through 1995, reporting to the Board of Trustees and CEO.  He joined Garcia & Ortiz in 1995, was promoted to Director of Audit Services and became a shareholder of the firm in 2003.

Mr. Linthicum has a wide range of experience providing accounting, auditing, financial reporting, special projects and consulting services to private and public companies in numerous industries, including manufacturing, retailing, distribution, construction, real estate development, healthcare, professional practices, restaurants, maritime shipping, retirement plans, financial institutions, not-for-profits and local governments.

His specialized consulting experience includes evaluation of internal controls, acquisitions and divestitures, financial forecasts, business valuations, general business consulting and executive search.

Mr. Linthicum also provides litigation support for law firms on complex civil litigation, arbitration and mediation cases, including personal injury, wrongful death, breach of contract, construction disputes, workers compensation and marital dissolution.

LOUIS P. ORTIZ, CPA, CBA

Louis Ortiz began his accounting career as a staff accountant with Florida Power Corporation in 1968 and worked his way to Senior Shareholder and Founder of Garcia & Ortiz, P.A. together with Luis Garcia in 1971. Mr. Ortiz was Managing director of Garcia & Ortiz from 1986 through 2003 and concentrated his practice in the area of litigation support services.

Louis received his B.S.B.A from the University of Florida in 1967 and his M.B.A. from the University of South Florida in 1975. He also served in the United States Marine Corps.

Mr. Ortiz has a wide range of professional experience that includes forensic accounting and business valuation, business damages, as well as extensive advising to clients in real estate matters, consulting work and testimony in the accounting, financial, economic, and business issues of commercial litigation. He has specialized litigation and valuation experience serving as an expert witness and consulting services in lost profits and earnings analysis, eminent domain damages, marital dissolution forensic and tax services, bankruptcy accounting, breach of contract analysis, family mediation, investigative accounting, valuation services for gift, estate, dissolution of marriage, bankruptcy, retirement plans, mergers, acquisitions, liquidations, and buy/sell agreements. Suzanne Reiber is a graduate of the University of Central Florida and has wide-ranging experience in public and private accounting since 1987. She has been practicing specifically in litigation support since 1993 and manages the Litigation Support Department for the Firm. Ms. Reiber’s vast experience in litigation support includes forensic accounting and business valuation. She has worked on more than 1000 Family Law cases and testifies regularly as an expert witness in Florida Courts.

Specializing in Litigation Support services, Ms. Reiber has published numerous articles, primarily related to Family Law and lectured for the FICPA, USF, local bar associations and the National Business Institute. Consulting services include marital dissolution forensic and tax services, bankruptcy accounting, lost profits and earnings analysis, valuation services, breach of contract analysis and investigative accounting.

Ms. Reiber has law firm industry experience previously serving as accountant and administrator for law firms and currently providing accounting, tax, trust accounting issues, and other consulting services to law firms. Mr. Tondreault’s primary focus is in the practice of litigation services and valuations. JAMES P. WATERS, CPA

James Waters started with the firm in 1991 and a year later became a shareholder of Garcia & Ortiz. Mr. Waters has extensive experience consulting with privately held companies in all aspects of the life of the business including formation, current operations, reorganization, and liquidation planning. Jim is the Director of Tax Services with the primary responsibility for final review of personal, corporate, and partnership tax returns, supervision and training of accounting staff in the preparation of all corporate and partnership tax returns, including consolidated and multi-state tax returns.

Jim Waters is heavily involved in tax planning and compliance for a wide range of industries including domestic and international taxes and business operations. Extensive experience in the hospitality industry, manufacturing, construction, real estate development, wholesale and retail distributors, professional practices and non-profit organizations. Special expertise in state and local taxation including sales tax and ad valorem taxes.

Mr. Waters provides recommendations to select and implement various retirement plans including 401(k), defined contribution, target plans, etc. Planning and assistance in implementing other taxable and non-taxable fringe benefit packages for management and staff. He assists in compliance with federal wage and hour rules.

Jim has special expertise in all aspects of federal and state taxation of For Profit, Tax Exempt and Not For Profit Clubs. Compliance services include preparation of federal and state income tax returns, state tangible and intangible tax returns. Special expertise in assisting clubs in implementing proper controls to properly apply Florida Sales Tax rules, choosing specific accounting software packages for billing, fixed asset management and financial reporting purposes, including point of sale systems.

Mr. Waters has past experience as a Contract Auditor with the Florida Department of Revenue for Corporate Income Tax and Florida Sales tax for the period 1995 - 2001. Duties included oversight of contract performance requirements and review of completed case audit files.

Dean Bruns has been with Garcia & Ortiz since 1997. Dean has extensive experience in public and private accounting dealing with privately-held corporations, LLCs, partnerships and sole proprietorships. His primary focus is in financial, tax, auditing and accounting for businesses and individuals. He consults on business plans, cash flow analysis, systems design, tax planning engagements and assists clients in hiring of accounting personnel.

Mr. Bruns provides comprehensive financial and tax planning for businesses and individuals. Review and preparation of federal and state corporate, partnership and individual income tax returns.

He has extensive consulting experience, including development of computer models for financial analysis and forecasting. Design and implementation of operational and financial reporting systems. Dean has been an expert witness on financial matters in court cases. Leila Papp joined the Garcia & Ortiz team in 2007. Leila’s experience includes forensic accounting and business valuation and her primary responsibilities are providing litigation support and analysis on civil cases involving marital dissolution, lost wages, and lost business profits. Extensive experience in preparing projection models, financial affidavits, analysis of lifestyle, asset valuations, and asset traces and has served as an expert witness at depositions, mediations, and settlement conferences.

Leila also assists with the preparation of federal and state individual income tax returns. She provides comprehensive financial and tax planning for individuals. Experienced in handling IRS issues, including appeals.

ERIN D. CONNORS, CPA, CVA

Erin Connors joined the firm in 2000. Erin has a wide range of experience including forensic accounting, business valuation, litigation support, as well as preparation of financial statements, federal and state corporate, partnership and individual income tax returns.

A significant portion of Ms. Connors practice is devoted to litigation support and analysis for law firms on complex civil and criminal cases involving marital dissolution, forensic and tax services, business valuation, lost profits and earnings analysis, investigative accounting, including fraud and under-reported wages. Erin has served as an expert witness at trial and has experience with depositions, mediations, settlement conferences, and hearings.

Jeremy Hill (Jay) joined the Garcia & Ortiz firm in 2011. Mr. Hill has been in public accounting since 2007. He graduated from Georgia Southern University with an M.B.A. and B.A. in June 2007. Prior to that time, he worked for over four years in the financial services industry.

Jay has a wide range of experience providing accounting, auditing, financial reporting, and consulting services to private and public companies in numerous industries, including manufacturing, construction, retail, insurance, real estate, not-for-profit, and 401(k) plans. Mr. Hill also assists with the preparation of federal and state corporate, partnership, and individual income tax returns.

Jay currently serves as the Secretary and CPE liaison for the Suncoast Chapter of the FICPA.

ROBERT F. HUBER, CPA

Robert Huber currently serves as an audit quality assurance reviewer for Garcia & Ortiz. Mr. Huber is a graduate of the University of South Florida and has been practicing accounting since 1970. He was a former audit partner with Grant Thornton, LLP (twenty-seven years with the firm). Mr. Huber has participated as a member of an audit standards review team making technical standard reviews of other public accounting firms and other offices of Grant Thornton, LLP, and served on Grant Thornton’s State and Local Governmental Auditing Committee. He has served on the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants’ Committee on State and Local Government and has been the Chairman of the Non-Profit Accounting Committee. Bob has been an adjunct professor in governmental auditing and accounting at the University of South Florida.

Mr. Huber works extensively in manufacturing/distribution business, primarily related to medium and large-sized corporations, including engineering, architectural and construction organizations. The work includes consultation in all phases of operations (financing, overhead rates, personnel, management, tax matters, profit and pension plans, budgeting, purchasing, advertising, profit improvement and cost reduction, insurance, etc.) He has a thorough understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and generally accepted auditing standards.

Rosie Kreis has been with the Garcia & Ortiz firm since 1990. Her experience consists of accounting, tax planning, litigation support and consulting for industries including retailing, real estate development, construction, health care, and professional practices.

Ms. Kreis has extensive experience with the implementation of financial statements and general ledger computer systems, specializing in Intuit System support and implementation. She is computer literate in a variety of accounting and business software applications.

Rosie has specialized knowledge with preparation and review of payroll taxes, sales tax, tangible returns, tax planning and compliance, including the review and preparation of federal and state corporate and partnership tax returns and the review of year end tax projections of federal and state individual income tax returns.

WILLIAM J. METZ, CPA

William Metz joined the Garcia & Ortiz firm in 1999. Bill has extensive experience in accounting, auditing, finance and administrative management, internal control, asset management, budgeting, data processing, and all phases of accounting from data entry through financial statements.

Mr. Metz manages contract attestation engagements for the Inspector General of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection relating to the Petroleum Preapproved Site Rehabilitation Program. Marianne Touger joined the Garcia & Ortiz team in 1998 and is a well accomplished accountant with over 17 years of experience who works closely with her clients on a day to day basis to achieve their financial desires and goals. Her hands on approach with clients translates into positive results and superior customer service. She also works closely with outside third parties including banks and attorneys in order to provide the best service possible.
 
Her primary responsibilities include comprehensive financial and tax planning for businesses and individuals; preparation of federal and state corporate, partnership, individual, trust and estate income tax returns. She has significant experience auditing large and mid-size companies and implementation of financial statements and general ledger computer systems, specializing in QuickBooks support and implementation.
 
Marianne also has special expertise in litigation support and analysis for law firms on complex civil and criminal cases involving marital dissolution, fraud and breach of contract.
